VBS & Rice Cereal

Creative title, huh?

Yea, this post is about VBS and rice cereal.
It may be lacking in excitement, but it's overdosing in cuteness!
Oh yes!!

Addie started Vacation Bible School @ Church of Christ in Houma Sunday night.

My mother in law went with her, since it is her church.

They went from 6:30-8:30 and she hasn't been getting home until right after 9.

Her bed time is typically 8:00, so that explains why she looks so sleepy in the photos I made her take with her craft of the night.

Poor kid would come in, walk to the wall for her picture, and head to the back for bed.

It was really cute. :)

The theme was "Creation" and they did a fantastic job entertaining the kids. She came home with a few crafts and projects and lessons and songs every night. I'm so happy she got to experience how cool God is at such a young age. My little Squiggy!

On another note, I did start Gideon on rice cereal, and he loves it!

He wasn't so sure about it at first, but ever since has been eating it like he's been on it his whole life.

I only fix him about an oz a day though, so he's still obviously primarily breastfed. I just want him to start getting used to textures so he can hopefully be a healthy eater like his sister.

Weekend WrapUp

My sweet happy baby boy hasn't been too happy lately. Friday afternoon to today (always on the weekend, ya know) he has been absolutely miserable.
Our weekend consisted of lots of laying low and cuddle time, which was definitely a change of pace for us.

I found out today that he had two pretty intense ear infections, which explains why he screamed for almost 4 days straight.

My poor little Tookie! :(
His chiropractor, Dr. Flynn gave him a good adjustment though, and ever since he's already been so much calmer. We also got some ear drops from his pediatrician this morning, so I'm hoping for better, happier days for little Gideon.

I think having a sick baby/child is one of the worse feelings ever. It's really hard looking into sweet innocent little eyes and seeing the normal sparkle replaced with pain. I've been praying a lot for parents and children who are really ill. I cannot imagine the strength and the struggle it must be to have a child seriously sick, but it really is something that weighs heavy on my heart. That's probably why I can never pass up a St. Jude donation request or a children's health fundraiser when offered. We are so blessed to have healthy babies. 

Oh and in between his hysteria this weekend we noticed the awful timing of two little milestones!
Yep, not even 4 months old yet and his two bottom teeth are already trying to break through.
I was so surprised when he started teething a month and a half ago, and sure enough all of the biting and drooling was leading up to these two suckers coming on through. They haven't broken the skin yet, but you can see the little white buds right under his swollen gums.

So between teething and ear infections we had another contender of sleep interruption:

This one has been waking up in the middle of the night and running into our room to come into bed with us. I think we're on 6 nights in a row. She knows to go to Philip's side of the bed too because he'll put her in bed with us. I, however, will risk waking up Gideon with Adeline's tempertantrum by putting her back into bed.
If you slept with this kid, you wouldn't blame me. She's like a night ninja. Let's just say on the nights that Daddy lets her have her way, I've ended up with either little to no sleep or on the couch. I don't know if she's been having nightmares or if she's just been missing Philip.

She has been quite a daddy's girl lately.
He has to take her to the bathroom.
He has to buckle her into her seat.
Daddy has to hold her.
Daddy has to push the buggy.
Wah Wah Wahhhhhhhhhhh
It's cool though, gives me a break from time to time since I've got my hands full with a little guy wanting to see this big world in action.

I guess that's it as far as baby updates.

Impromptu Beach Day

Myself and spontanuity are like antonyms. 

I'm a planner, and if something unexpected comes up, it's usually more stressfull for me than delightful.

I let that go this weekend though, when we decided to take the babies to the beach for the first time.

My sister and her boyfriend Jeff were vacationing in Pass Christian Mississippi, and they invited us to join them on Saturday. Since it was only 2 hours away from here, we took them up and spent the entire day on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico.

It's no Pensacola, FL, [where Philip and I love to vacation], but it was very beautiful and refreshing and fun and we hope for many more beach days throughout this summer.

Now Adeline is always at extreme. Either she loves something or she hates it. Last summer we couldn't get her into water for anything. She hated the water. So we weren't exactly expecting her to love the beach.

and well since we did drive 2 hours to come, and Gideon is too little to enjoy beach fun, we were really hoping she'd enjoy it.

and enjoy it was exactly what she did. 

We didn't have to coax her into the water; those little feet went splashing right in. Lucky for us it seemed like miles of shallow water for her to wade and crawl in.

 If there's one thing I'll remember from this day, it was that Adeline is much more of a Daddy's girl than I've realized. Everything was "Watch me Daddy!" or "Daddy come see.", "Oh looooook, Daddy!". 

I've said it before, but I'll say it again: there isn't too much sweeter than a Daddy and his little girl. 

Gideon's got the life! While the rest of us pranced in the water, and built sand castles, Gideon got some sweet baby rest in the sun. [Actually in the shade]

Although I was really, really enjoying the sunshine and the water and the giggles from my little girl, part of me really, really wanted to lay out next to little one here and just doze off in the breeze. Mmm Hmmmm...

Adeline and Heidi were alligators.

We wore out an inflatable sea turtle [appropriate, huh?].

We ate goldfish [again, appropriate :)]

and then something awesome happened....

Adeline got acquainted with the waves. I've never seen her laugh so hard. and I told her God must have sent them just for her because they came out of no where and the waves were just her size.

We went in for some lunch and some sunscreen application, and we came out again in the evening.

and when the sun started to turn in for the day, so did we. It was time well spent on a breathtaking day. 

The beach is always such a happy place, but being there with my kids brought a joy I haven't felt before.

We walked to the car and as we were loading up the toys, towels, and kids Adeline waved at the water and said, "Bye bye beach, I'll see ya later."

So we'll definitely see ya later, beach!
