Sewin' it Up

When Philip's at work meetings or working out at the gym, I consider that excellent time for getting something crafty done. My craft room is currently a complete tornado after-scene,  so I've been more into sewing lately since my machine is sitting pretty on the kitchen table right where it doesn't belong.

I just wanted to share some of my latest projects.

This is an easy apron I made for my friend's bridal shower.
This one's a little pup purse/trick or treat bag to go along with Adeline's Halloween costume/pjs.

This is a little gift set I made for my friend's baby shower gift. It's got a little freezer paper stenciled onesie with a ruffle booty, 2 reversible burp cloths, and a reversible bib.

I have a couple of other fun sewing projects in the works, but they've been put on hold due to some really intense nesting instincts I've been having.

I have so many baby crafts I need to get done too.
I have to make a carseat cover, crib sheets, a quilt, nursery curtains, a boppy cover.....
oh my....
I wish I wouldn't have had all of Addie's things in girly florals and polka dots.

Any hoo, my weekend looks like it's going to be full of cleaning, organizing, and maybe a little crafting.
I hope you all have a good one. ;)

Easy Apron Tutorial

After I made my fruity kitchen apron, I've since made a couple more. One was a birthday gift and one for a wedding gift.
While making my last one I figured I'd take pictures so that I could share with you how EASY it is to make.
I didn't measure anything, nor did I use a pattern so this easy project isn't for you perfectionists.

Okay so first I cut out a large square.
I just kind of estimated how wide by my own hips (which have to be bigger than average).
Then I cut out the proportional pockets, waist ties, and a bottom border.
I did the bottom border straight on this one since it was a patchwork fabric, but if you wanted to do a ruffle like my other aprons have just cut the bottom fabric twice as long as you need it to ruffle.

I hemmed the main part of the apon first, and then I hemmed the pockets.
Next I worked on the waist ties:
Sew one side of the waist straps with the right side of the fabric touching.
Turn it inside out using the push thumb method.
Fold over the ends and finish with a straight or slanted hem.
Just place the straps at the top of the [finished] apron square. Fold over the top flap:
Stitch the straw onto the side (again when it's already hemmed)

Then just sew the pockets and the border on.
Plus don't forget to iron when it's all done.
(and if you have a horribly shedding Labradoodle make sure all of her black hair is lint rolled off.)
There you go, an easy, cute apron made in the time it took your 14 month old to nap.

Bright and Fruity

Guess what I made this morning?
.... Well I originally bought this orange and white polka dot fabric for a summer dress for Adeline, but when visiting my sister a few weeks ago at Hancocks, she showed me this fruity fabric that had just come in.
She mentioned it'd be cute for an apron, so an apron is exactly what I bought it for...
Yep! I made an apron! All by myself. No pattern AND no tears.
I'm so very proud of it!

I just cut a large square out of the orange polka dots, added a border with the fruit fabric, then added some ruffle at the botton. Oh don't forget the fruit pockets and orange ties too.
Super easy and it would have taken about a half hour if Adeline hadn't been fighting me for the fabric, scissors, and sewing machine pedal.

My sister will be proud because she thinks sewing with out a pattern is borderline insane, although it's usually the ONLY way I feel comfortable sewing anything.

Sweet!!

I think the rest of the fruit fabric would be cute for pot holders, or on a baby onesie, or even a country kitchen pillow or something. We'll see when I get a wild sewing hair again.
